About Dr. Cantrell

Charles G. Cantrell, the director and veterinarian of the Spring Mill Veterinary Hospital was born and raised on a farm at Ludwig's Corner, Chester County PA. Growing up he attended Kimberton Farms School (now Kimberton Waldorf School, always a Waldorf school). He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, and the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. He continued for advanced training in companion animal medicine and surgery and was on the teaching faculty at Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr Cantrell also worked in research for over four years studying the body's response to diseases caused by viruses. Specifically working in Virology & Immunology, at Montana State University, in the Department of Veterinary Science he studied comparative human and animal virus caused respiratory diseases.

Prior to moving home to Chester County, Dr. Cantrell had directed two companion animal hospitals in North Carolina. He had also spent over two years working exclusively in emergency medicine & surgery, and almost two years exclusively in surgery. He maintained his special interest in surgery, enhanced by his advanced training and experience in both soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. His strong background in the surgery arts was well recognized, as he was asked, and did author a brief chapter in the leading text on small animal surgery. Additionally, Dr. Cantrell has completed concentrated training courses in Veterinary Dentistry. Viewing dentistry as an extension of surgery, Dr. Cantrell has extensive experience from routine dental cleaning to root canals and caps! Dental health is extremely important for a long, healthy life – for all species.

Dr. Cantrell has studied Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine extensively at the well-renowned Chi Institute, in Florida. Utilizing Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medical (TCVM) training, in addition to excellent American Veterinary Medical training and experience, coupled with enhanced awareness through the study and application of Myofascial Release (MFR) healing therapy many perplexing problems are able to be addressed both directly and indirectly (MFR enhances other medical treatments). Many medical problems, for which we did not have safe, reliable, and effective treatment plans, are now able to be taken care of more effectively usually with less drugs and less use of invasive techniques. Dr. Cantrell has been studying the healing art of Myofascial Release, working with the leader in the field, John Barnes, PT. The study of MFR is all in and on humans, Dr. Cantrell has found that applying the techniques of Myofascial Release in animal health care can be amazingly beneficial when dealing with any number of diseases or disorders of balance in the animal’s system.
